NATURAL DYES IN THE KITCHEN

Create a rainbow of color from the comfort of your own home! We will work with common household items (and a few specialty things) to dye natural fiber and fabric. Using sustainable methods, we will explore different techniques including submersion dyeing, bundle dyeing, shibori and more.

Requirements: Stove top or electric burner, sink (or other water source)
-Pot (something not used for cooking) I use a canning pot
-One skein of wool yarn
-One yard of cotton fabric
-Optional – silk, linen, hemp, alpaca (any other natural fiber)
-Ecover (pH neutral soap) and Orvus Paste
-Cream of tartar
Additional materials for dyeing will be shared during the class.
