Character Concept Art Online Intensive - July 19-23, 2021
Explore the world of creating characters, their stories and environments by acquiring the technical and conceptual skills to bring your ideas to life. Whether you love animation, digital film or video games, storytellers alike will come together and create Entertainment Arts work for their portfolio.
THIS IS A GOOD CONCENTRATION IF YOU: Play video games. Watch Cartoon Network. Visualize the look of characters and settings when reading. Daydream in full color and three dimensions.
This one-week course that will help you explore the exciting field of Entertainment Arts. In this course, you will:
- Develop design and drawing skills
- Create work for your college admissions portfolio
- Meet experienced industry professionals
- Learn under the direction of CCS Entertainment Arts faculty
Each morning and afternoon, classes will connect via Zoom sessions that will be used for small-group live video chats, demos, and lectures that teach industry drawing techniques. You will work on assignments independently, develop your visual vocabulary, and create portfolio-quality work. 10am-2:30pm eastern standard time. See tentative schedule posted with images.
You will have the amazing opportunity to interact with industry experts and gain insights into careers in the entertainment art industries. The week will culminate with reviews and feedback from your instructor.

Supplies that you will need to have on hand to participate in the class are listed below.
Instructor: Abby Ferry
Supplies for students working with both traditional and digital mediums:
- Plain unlined paper, such as copy paper
- Sharpie fine tip and regular
- Camera (Phone camera is fine)
For traditional mediums:
- Pad of 11”x 17” Smooth Bristol Paper
- Preferred method of coloring, i.e. color pencils, watercolors, gouache
For digital mediums:
- Wacom Tablet or Cintiq
- Access to Photoshop or Clip Studio
Courses will meet over Zoom in small groups of 15 or less students. Classes will be recorded and transcribed for quality purposes and made available in the event a student cannot attend class. Recordings will be deleted after 60 days.
