DESIGN YOUR DREAM CAR: PART 1, AUTOMOTIVE DESIGN - AEXP 112 PT1

Try the exciting field of automotive design in this new two-part program. CCS has one of the top transportation design programs in the world. In Part 1, beginning and intermediate students will learn the basics of the automotive design process. Focus will be on building confident drawing skills and how to get ideas from mind to paper. Starting with basic side-view profiles, students will progress into basic perspective views and learn to make drawings look dimensional. In Part 2, students will continue to develop their skills, applying the learned concepts to a short project. Students will take one of their rough ideation sketches and develop a more refined design, culminating in a 3D model at the end of the session. Participation in Part I is not required, but is highly recommended.

CCS is grateful to the Margaret Dunning Foundation’s Career Connections grant, a two-year program to introduce Western Wayne County high school students to creative career pathways in the automotive industry. This generous donation has provided an opportunity for CCS to expand its programming into Plymouth, strengthening the pipeline of creative opportunities for high school students.

CCS Career Connections Scholarships, valued at $100 each, are available to high school students enrolling in designated PARC courses that include a focus on automotive industry opportunities.

About the Margaret Dunning Foundation

The Margaret Dunning Foundation was founded by Ms. Dunning in 1997. She was born in 1910 in Redford Township, Michigan, and moved with her mother to Plymouth, Michigan in the 1920s. During her lifetime, Ms. Dunning was a successful business woman, philanthropist, and civic booster. She was a major supporter of many Plymouth nonprofits, including the Plymouth District Library and the Plymouth Historical Society. In addition to her personal philanthropy, Ms. Dunning was a classic car enthusiast and was a regular participant in the Woodward Dream Cruise with her 1930 Packard 740 Roadster.

Ms. Dunning died in 2013 at the age of 104. Her estate provided additional funding for the Margaret Dunning Foundation, which continues to support her charitable interests and legacy.
