Poster Art: Text & Imagery in Pen & Ink Online Intensive
Poster art has a powerful history steeped in both music and activism. Often executed in black and white, poster art is accessible and democratic. It can be created with just pen and paper and reproduced with a copier machine. Designed to grab the attention of passerby, an emphasis will be placed on bold lines and high contrast. Learn the history of this influential medium while exploring pen and ink techniques. Tell your personal story or show your fandom by combining text with imagery to create an original work of poster art for your portfolio.
THIS IS A GOOD CONCENTRATION IF YOU: Have something to say. Find beauty in simple lines and abstract images. Express yourself through art.
This one week course that will help you explore various techniques used in Poster making and pen and ink drawing. In this course, you will:
- Develop conceptual thinking

The lead instructor will be Emma Wasielke. Emma Wasielke is a New York based visual artist. Inspired by indie comics, Riot Grrrl zines, and the Mission School, her work is composed of drawings, textiles, and animations that function as an archive of fleeting moments from her everyday life. Female-centric and produced mainly in black and white, her art explores themes of transience, solitude, disposability, longing, and intimacy. Emma holds a BFA in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA in Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She was selected as an Artist in Residence at the Studios at MASS MoCA and has taught Visual Arts courses at Suffolk County Community College.
